Hat yai: The army is poised to evacuate residents from the flood-stricken areas of Hat Yai. The Navy Commander has disclosed plans for HTMS Angthong and HTMS Chang to join the Chakri Naruebet in delivering aid. The Royal Thai Air Force has stressed the importance of reaching those trapped in the area swiftly.
According to Thai News Agency, Admiral Pairoj Fuangchan, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy, addressed the flood relief operations in Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province. He mentioned the deployment of the HTMS Chakri Naruebet and a helicopter to assist in the mission. The helicopter is scheduled to depart this afternoon, pending the arrival of donations. Due to strong currents, small boats are unable to navigate the waters, necessitating the use of helicopters to deliver supplies.
When questioned about public expectations for military assistance in evacuating the area, Admiral Pairote confirmed ongoing efforts. The HTMS Chakri Naruebet is set to be the first to arrive, with HTMS Angthong and HTMS Chang following.
Admiral Pairote emphasized the need for evacuations to be conducted in specific areas, determined after thorough surveys to identify evacuation points. The Second Naval Area Commander noted that many affected individuals are on high ground, such as rooftops.
In response to inquiries about challenges faced by helicopters, Admiral Pairote acknowledged the presence of strong winds and rain but assured that efforts would be made to rescue people as swiftly as possible.
Air Chief Marshal Seksan Kantha, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Air Force, affirmed the Air Force's readiness to support flood relief operations in the southern region. He stated that airlifters have already been deployed and emphasized the urgency of reaching the stranded population. The Royal Thai Air Force is coordinating personnel and resources across armed forces and other government agencies to address the crisis.
