Mae sot: The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), alongside the Online Fraud Prevention Center and other related agencies, conducted a raid on a site in Mae Sot district suspected of illegally transmitting signals across the border.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Trairat Wiriyasirikul, Deputy Secretary-General and Acting Secretary-General of the NBTC, reported that the operation took place after receiving information from a telecommunications service provider. The provider had observed unusual, consistently high internet usage at a company located near the Moei River, close to the Thai-Myanmar border. This usage pattern was inconsistent with typical office usage, prompting further investigation.
During the raid, authorities found equipment inside the building that had been installed and modified to transmit internet signals across the border to Myanmar. This included a large network equipment modification cabinet and additional Network Management and Gateway equipment beyond the standard provisions from service providers. Police and related officials confiscated the equipment as evidence, which will be submitted to investigators for legal proceedings. Efforts are underway to track down those responsible for the illegal activities for prosecution.
The NBTC, in collaboration with police and telecommunications service providers, remains vigilant in inspecting and addressing technology-related crimes. These efforts are part of NBTC's measures to protect national interests and ensure compliance with the law.
