Nikorn Unveils Affordable Senior Housing Project in Bang Lamung

Bang lamung: Nikorn has launched the "Housing for Thais - Senior Citizens" project, aiming to transform land in Bang Lamung into affordable housing for the elderly, using Universal Design as a model.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Nikorn Somklang, the Minister of Social Development and Human Security, along with executives from the Ministry and the National Housing Authority, visited a senior living center in Bang Lamung District, Chonburi Province. They discussed potential development plans for the area, emphasizing the long-standing intentions to create a senior living facility. Mr. Nikorn highlighted the land's potential for development into a comprehensive senior living project, setting a precedent for similar facilities.

Mr. Nikorn issued directives to expedite the project: Firstly, the Office of the Permanent Secretary is to coordinate with the Department of Treasury to finalize land boundaries and guidelines. Secondly, the Department of Elderly Affairs and the Housing Authority of Thailand should conduct studies to determine housing needs for an aging society. Thirdly, the National Housing Authority must study development models based on the "Senior Complex Housing for Thai People" concept and present findings to the Cabinet. Lastly, all project developments should adhere to Universal Design principles, serving as a model for private sector initiatives.

Mr. Nikorn emphasized the urgency as Thai society rapidly ages. He urged the Ministry to lead by example, collaborating with various organizations to foster an inclusive society. He remarked, 'If this project is completed, it will provide quality housing for thousands more senior families, making it accessible for Thais to have homes in suitable, affordable locations. Home is the foundation of life and promotes quality of life development in other dimensions.'
