Northern Thailand Braces for Cooler Temperatures as Strong Winds Approach

Bangkok: Northern Thailand is set to experience a further drop in temperatures, with a decrease of 1-3 degrees Celsius expected in the coming days. The Meteorological Department has indicated that the region will face cooler weather accompanied by strong winds. Meanwhile, the lower southern parts of the country should prepare for heavy rainfall.

According to Thai News Agency, the Meteorological Department forecasts that over the next 24 hours, the North, Northeast, and upper Central regions will see cool to cold weather conditions, while Bangkok and surrounding areas, along with the East and upper South, will have cool mornings. This change in weather is attributed to a strong high-pressure system or cold air mass from China influencing upper Thailand. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions for their health due to the colder climate and remain aware of fire hazards due to the dry and windy conditions.

In the lower southern part of Thailand, heavy rainfall is anticipated. Residents should be vigilant about the risks associated with heavy and prolonged rainfall, as a northeast monsoon currently affects the Gulf of Thailand and the southern region. The Gulf is experiencing significant wave activity, with waves reaching 2-3 meters and exceeding 3 meters in areas with thunderstorms. Similarly, the Andaman Sea is witnessing waves approximately 2 meters high, exceeding 2 meters in stormy conditions. Mariners are urged to exercise caution, and smaller vessels in the Gulf should avoid venturing out to sea. Those living along the eastern coast of southern Thailand should stay alert to the potential dangers from crashing waves.

The regional weather forecast indicates varying conditions across different parts of Thailand. Bangkok and its surroundings will experience cool weather with strong winds, with temperatures dropping by 1-2 degrees Celsius, ranging from 18-22 degrees Celsius at the minimum to 29-31 degrees Celsius at the maximum. Northern Thailand will face cool to cold weather with temperatures dropping further by 1-3 degrees Celsius. The Northeast will also experience similar conditions, with strong winds and a drop in temperature by 1-3 degrees Celsius. The Central region will see cool to cold weather with a temperature decline of 1-3 degrees Celsius, while the Eastern region will encounter cool and windy weather with a similar drop in temperature.

The Southern Region's east coast will have varying weather, with the upper part experiencing cool mornings and the lower part expecting thunderstorms in 40% of the area, particularly affecting provinces such as Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, and Songkhla. The west coast of Southern Thailand will have a 30% chance of thunderstorms, mostly affecting Krabi, Trang, and Satun provinces.
