Oblig© Seville Takes Gold in Men’s 100m at World Athletics Championships


Tokyo: Phuriphon Bunson, a Thai athlete, finished 7th in the men’s 100m semi-finals at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Japan. Meanwhile, Jamaican sprinter Oblig© Seville won the gold medal.



According to Thai News Agency, at the 2025 World Athletics Championships at the National Stadium of Japan in Tokyo, Jamaica’s Oblig© Seville emerged victorious in the men’s 100-meter final by clocking a time of 9.77 seconds. His fellow countryman, Keeshan Thompson, secured the silver medal with a time of 9.82 seconds. The bronze medal was claimed by the United States’ Noah Lyles, the defending champion and Olympic gold medalist from the “Paris Games 2024,” who finished in 9.89 seconds.



Phuriphon Bunson, a 19-year-old Thai national athlete and the sole representative from Asia to make it to the semi-finals, competed in Heat 2. Starting from lane 9, he finished in 7th place with a time of 10.17 seconds, which was not enough to advance to the finals. However, his performance marked him as the best runner from Asia in the event.



In the women’s 100m final, Mellisa Jefferson-Wooden from the United States clinched the gold medal with a time of 10.61 seconds. Tina Clayton from Jamaica took the silver with a time of 10.76 seconds, while Julian Alfred from St. Lucia won the bronze, finishing in 10.84 seconds. Jefferson-Wooden’s time set a new competition record and stands as the fourth-fastest in the history of the women’s 100m, following the records of Florence Griffith-Joyner, Elaine Thompson-Hera, and Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce.
