Organ Transplant from Single Donor Saves Five Lives in Southern Thailand

Trang: A groundbreaking organ transplant at Trang Hospital has saved the lives of five individuals, marking a significant medical milestone in southern Thailand. The organs, harvested from a 46-year-old woman, included two kidneys, two eyes, and one heart valve. This operation is the first instance in the region where five organs have been successfully donated by a single individual. According to Thai News Agency, the donor's family honored her wish to donate her organs, a decision she had previously expressed to the Thai Red Cross Society. The transplant operation, conducted on the evening of September 10th, involved a meticulous process where the organs were carefully transported from the diagnostic and treatment building of Trang Hospital to Hat Yai Airport, destined for patients in need. Ms. Suchada, the donor, tragically sustained severe injuries from a motorcycle accident on September 8th. Her brother, Mr. Piyapong Saelim, uncovered her intention to be an organ donor after finding her donation card at their home. The family promptly coordinated with medical professionals to facilitate the organ donation, allowing Ms. Suchada's legacy to live on through others. Mr. Saelim expressed hope that recipients will cherish the gift of life his sister has given. The medical team emphasized the significance of this case, as it represents the first time such a comprehensive organ harvest has occurred in southern Thailand. The organs are being distributed to various locations for transplant surgeries, with one eye already en route to Songkhla province for immediate surgery. The other organs will be sent to Bangkok to help patients awaiting transplants. Ms. Suchada's family has arranged her funeral at Wat Khuan Wiset, with cremation scheduled for September 17th.
