Paetongtarn Confirms Thaksin’s Imminent Retirement and Parole Procedures

Bangkok: Former Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, known as "Ink," visited Thaksin Shinawatra at Klong Prem Central Prison, accompanied by her husband Pitak Sukhsawat and her lawyer Winyat Chatmontri. Thaksin, who has been incarcerated for 5 months and 17 days, was met by a large group of Red Shirt supporters.

This process requires subcommittee approval. Thaksin is expected to fulfill these criteria by May 10, 2026, allowing for possible release on May 11, 2026. Paetongtarn assured that the procedure is being followed appropriately. During their 45-minute visit, she discussed general topics with Thaksin and relayed details of her recent trip with Thaksin's father.

When questioned about preparations for parole, Paetongtarn stated that they would adhere to the process. Regarding Thaksin's political aspirations, she confirmed his intention to retire, emphasizing his definite decision to step away from politics.
