Bangkok: A report by Deputy Prime Minister Pakorn Nilapraphan has uncovered significant corruption in the 2025 local government exam process, revealing numerous loopholes and ordering legal action against those involved. According to Thai News Agency, the report, submitted directly to Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul on August 6th, outlines irregularities at every stage of the examination process.
The investigation highlighted several suspicious activities, including the approval of only 8,545 vacant positions against the 15,520 appointments announced. The Central Committee for Local Government Employee Examinations (CGE) was found to have subcontracted the examination result verification process, leading to duplicate copies of results and increased corruption risks.
A significant issue was the discrepancies between civil service exam scores and officially announced results. Alterations in exam data were detected, with failed candidates being made successful and scores being inflated to manipulate recruitment rankings. Despite these findings, the Civil Service Commission (CSC) certified the results and continued appointments without verifying the details.
The committee recommended civil, criminal, administrative, and ethical charges against those involved. It also advised rescoring the OMR database, revoking corrupt appointments, recovering salaries, and establishing a central database of corrupt individuals. The Prime Minister has approved all proposals and ordered their strict implementation.
Deputy Minister of Interior, Mr. Worasit Liengprasit, assured that there was no delay or protection of individuals involved. Verification of 300,000 applicants' information is underway, and all evidence has been forwarded to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) for prompt legal action.
