Khon kaen: A patient's social media post has sparked widespread concern after detailing a distressing incident at a public hospital where he received the wrong injection. The hospital later confirmed that the injection was merely saline solution and posed no danger.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident came to light when a Facebook user, "Thanapol Athipattapapakorn," shared his alarming experience online. Mr. Thanapol posted a photograph of himself in the hospital, recounting how a nurse administered an injection meant for another patient with an infection. The post read, "Bad luck. I came for treatment for one thing, but the nurse injected me with medication taken from another patient who had an infection. Waiting for an explanation. I already told them it's not my last name." The post quickly garnered attention, with many urging him to seek clarification from the hospital regarding the medication and its possible risks.
Reporters reached out to Mr. Thanapol, who was still at the hospital undergoing examination due to symptoms of dizziness and fainting. He described how he became suspicious when a nurse prepared to give him an injection, despite his treatment not requiring one. He questioned the nurse multiple times, but she proceeded with the injection, only realizing the mistake after his persistent objections. The nurse confirmed the injection was saline solution, assuring him it was harmless. However, the incident left Mr. Thanapol anxious, prompting him to share his experience online for documentation in case of an adverse reaction.
In response to the incident, the acting head nurse confirmed through a video call that the injection was indeed saline solution and thanked Mr. Thanapol for his vigilance. She assured that the patient received proper care and that the matter was reported to higher authorities. The nurse involved apologized for the error, and measures are being taken to prevent such occurrences in the future, including additional training for the staff involved.
This incident underscores the importance of thorough verification processes in medical settings and highlights the need for healthcare professionals to remain attentive to patient concerns to ensure safety and trust in healthcare environments.
