Bangkok: The People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) is set to meet with opposition parties on March 25 to establish a framework for collaborative work. The PDRC is committed to advancing the new constitution, despite awaiting a Cabinet resolution to revive and submit a new constitutional amendment draft for parliamentary consideration.
According to Thai News Agency, Parit Wacharasindhu, a party-list MP from the People's Party and its spokesperson, disclosed the party's plans to engage with opposition parties. Informal talks have already taken place with the Democrat Party and the Kla Tham Party. During a recent House of Representatives meeting, both parties agreed to address energy issues through a collaborative discussion. The PDRC has scheduled a meeting with the opposition on March 25 to further discuss cooperative efforts.
Mr. Parit elaborated on the progress in drafting a new constitution following referendum results, emphasizing that MPs from all political parties and the Senate must act according to these outcomes. The next phase involves amending Article 256 of the current constitution to introduce a chapter on drafting a new constitution. This amendment requires a resolution from the new Cabinet to either confirm the existing draft or propose a new draft amendment for parliamentary consideration.
Parit reiterated the People's Party's commitment to ensuring that the constitution drafting process remains inclusive, engaging the public as much as possible, and avoiding monopolization by any single group.
