Perpetrators of Su-ngai Kolok District Office Attack Identified

Su-ngai Kolok: The perpetrators behind the car bomb and shooting attack at Su-ngai Kolok District Office have been identified as the work of Abdulleh Bula, a high-ranking commander with overseas training. Some of the perpetrators have reportedly fled to the Tawe Mountains, while others have crossed the border.

According to Thai News Agency, authorities suspect that Abdulleh Bula, known for his skills in shooting and assembling explosives, collaborated with insurgent groups in the Su-ngai Kolok District. These groups also operate in Waeng and Tak Bai Districts and were involved in previous incidents such as the robbery and arson at the Hala-Bala Wildlife Sanctuary in Waeng District, Narathiwat Province, on September 21, 2024, and the bombing on January 14, 2025, targeting officials at the Ban Tuengo Border Patrol Police School. This group has received combat training abroad and is fully capable of resisting state power. Following the attack, some members fled across the border, while others sought refuge in the Tawe Mountains in Su-ngai Padi District, Narathiwat Province.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Piyawat Chalermsri, commander of Provincial Police Region 9, stated that police are gathering evidence and analyzing CCTV footage to trace the perpetrators' route during the crime and their escape. The bomb used in the attack was contained in a 15-kilogram gas cylinder, with a total weight of approximately 90-100 kilograms.

Authorities also discovered significant illegal movements of firearms, ammunition, and explosives across the Thai-Malaysian border, which were then transported to areas between Su-ngai Kolok, Sukhirin, and Waeng districts in Narathiwat Province. The attack at the Su-ngai Kolok District Office is part of a larger pattern of violence, with insurgent groups still awaiting opportunities to cause unrest, particularly in Yala and Pattani provinces.
