Pheu Thai Party Holds Power to Dissolve Parliament Amid Diverse Opinions

Bangkok: The recent meeting between the executive committee and Members of Parliament (MPs) has revealed a wide range of opinions on the current political situation.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Phrasit has highlighted that the Pheu Thai Party possesses the authority to dissolve parliament without waiting for the People's Party. He reiterated his stance that dissolving parliament is the most effective solution for the country. The meeting, convened to vote for the prime minister, showcased diverse opinions among the participants.

Mr. Panusaya Wacharasindhu, a member of the People's Party, stated that the ongoing meeting would require more time due to the varied opinions. He noted that a representative of the Pheu Thai Party had remarked that if the People's Party could not reach a decision on a specific party, dissolution of parliament might be considered. Panusaya emphasized that the Pheu Thai Party could initiate this process independently. He reiterated the People's Party's consistent demand for dissolving parliament, conducting new elections swiftly, and forming a legitimate and stable government to address the nation's critical issues.

The People's Party asserts that the acting prime minister, Mr. Phumtham Wechayachai, and the Pheu Thai Party hold the power to dissolve parliament. Should they choose, they can act without waiting for a consensus from the People's Party. Currently, no dissolution has occurred, and the People's Party is contemplating how to utilize their 143 votes to select a prime minister who will proceed with dissolving parliament. They remain committed to this course of action until a new prime minister is elected.

Mr. Pris, expressing the stance of the People's Party, emphasized that there is no necessity to wait for their decision, as the Pheu Thai Party can act with the authority it currently possesses. He clarified that the truth of this matter was not discussed in the meeting; instead, his intention was to provide clarity to the public and media, addressing the ongoing news coverage.

Regarding the atmosphere at the meeting, Mr. Pris noted the continued presence of diverse opinions. He pointed out that since last Friday, MPs from the Prachachon Party have been engaging with their constituencies, affording them the chance to gather a variety of perspectives from both MPs and local residents. This process, he acknowledged, will likely take additional time.
