Pheu Thai Party Urges People’s Party to Scrutinize Bhumjaithai’s Ministerial Appointments

Bangkok: People are urged to question Bhumjaithai regarding the upcoming appointment of the Minister of Justice and Transport. The Pheu Thai Party has called on the People’s Party to hold the Bhumjaithai Party accountable for its upcoming ministerial appointments, particularly concerning the Justice and Transport portfolios. The Pheu Thai Party has expressed its concerns about potential involvement in the Senate collusion case and the Khao Kradong land issue, urging the People’s Party to demonstrate responsibility.

According to Thai News Agency, Danupon Punnakanta, spokesperson for the Pheu Thai Party, highlighted the unease among various parties regarding the potential ministers under the Bhumjaithai Party-led government. This comes in light of the People’s Party’s Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) which mandates the dissolution of Parliament within four months. The Bhumjaithai Party, led by the People’s Party, has reportedly abandoned numerous policies aimed at benefiting the public and shown a propensity for advancing large-scale projects. Consequently, there is skepticism about whether the party will adhere to its four-month timeline for dissolving Parliament.

Mr. Danupon noted that the list of candidates for various positions has stirred societal concern, especially regarding the Ministry of Justice. The ministry has faced criticism due to a former civil servant from Buriram Province linked to individuals accused by the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) of collusion in Senate selections. The Bhumjaithai Party is also reported to be taking the role of Interior Minister, overseeing the Land Department and the Ministry of Transport, which governs the State Railway of Thailand. This development raises questions about the handling of the Khao Kradong land issue and the Senate collusion case. While the Pheu Thai Party will not press for further action from the Bhumjaithai Party, it emphasizes that the public is closely monitoring the outcomes of these cases over the next two weeks. It is the People’s Party, having negotiated and formed a government with the Bhumjaithai Party, that cannot escape its responsibilities. Currently, the candidate list awaits royal end
orsement.

Mr. Danupon urged the People’s Party to formally communicate any discomfort with potential ministerial candidates to the Bhumjaithai Party. He emphasized that this transparency would bolster the credibility of the People’s Party’s MOA. He reminded the People’s Party of its opposition role and its responsibility, despite its involvement in forming the Bhumjaithai government.
