Bangkok: The government is accelerating economic stimulus in all dimensions, pushing Thai tourism, hoping for GDP to surge. It was revealed that “Phuket” was the champion city for tourism revenue in 2024, earning 490 billion baht.
According to Thai News Agency, Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the 10 provinces that earned the most income from tourism in 2024 were: 1. Phuket 497,523.93 million baht 2. Chonburi 316,811.02 million baht 3. Surat Thani 119,098.39 million baht 4. Chiang Mai 103,822.38 million baht 5. Krabi 91,042.62 million baht 6. Prachuap Khiri Khan 51,702.91 million baht 7. Phang Nga 50,897.28 million baht 8. Songkhla 50,286.40 million baht 9. Chiang Rai 49,420.04 million baht 10. Kanchanaburi 36,445.94 million baht
The statistics of the 10 provinces that generate the most income from tourism from 2024 help show the trends and potential of each province to attract both Thai and foreign tourists. It helps in planning interesting activities to attract tourists to travel. It is also an opportunity for provinces to develop and improve tourist attractions and services to better meet the needs of tourists, help stimulate the local economy, and promote the growth of hotels, restaurants, and tourist attractions.
‘Income from tourism in the 10 provinces clearly reflects that the tourism industry remains a pillar of the Thai economy, especially provinces with natural and cultural potential that attract travelers from around the world. The government is therefore pushing for 2025 to be the ‘Golden Year of Thai Tourism’, where travel can be made all year round, with no low season, while distributing income to primary and secondary cities, creating economic opportunities for all sectors. In addition, the standard of Thai tourism has been raised with the ‘Tourism Department Standard Homestay’ project, with over 226 locations nationwide, to build confidence in quality and safety, attract quality tourists, and increase spending per capita for sustainable growth,’ Ms. Sasikarn stated.
