Narathiwat: Phumtham Vejjayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, has emphasized his commitment to monitoring the situation in Thailand's three southern border provinces. He has assured residents that he is dedicated to protecting and supporting the community, irrespective of religious affiliations.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Phumtham presided over an alms-giving ceremony at Wat Pi Leng in Cho Airong District. During his visit, he addressed the residents of Narathiwat Province, stating that his presence was to provide encouragement amid reports of violence in the area. He highlighted that he has been actively engaging with security agencies to address the significant impact of the unrest on the people's daily lives. Although the violence is a long-standing issue, Mr. Phumtham affirmed his determination to help the community live peacefully.
Mr. Phumtham expressed confidence in the inherent kindness of Thai citizens, which he believes can foster peaceful coexistence despite differences in religious beliefs and race. He reiterated his commitment to studying the violence from various perspectives and pledged to protect and care for all residents in the southern border provinces.
Furthermore, Mr. Phumtham visited the Ratchapattana Mosque to meet with religious and community leaders, as well as the general public, to offer his support. He also inspected and motivated the personnel of the 4803rd Ranger Company in Ban Pi Leng, and encouraged new soldiers of the 151st Regiment, Battalion 3, at the 3rd Infantry Battalion, 151st Infantry Regiment. He thanked the soldiers for their service and emphasized their role in national defense and disaster response.
