Police and Gold Shops Collaborate to Enhance Security Against Gold Robberies

Bangkok: Police officials and gold shop operators in Bangkok have taken collaborative steps to enhance security measures aimed at deterring gold robberies. The initiative was spearheaded by the Deputy Commissioner General of Police in conjunction with the Bangkok Metropolitan Police Command and the Gold Traders Association.

According to Thai News Agency, Police General Kittirat Panpetch, the Commissioner General of the Royal Thai Police, delegated Police General Thatchai Pitanilabutr, Deputy Commissioner General responsible for crime prevention and suppression, to lead a meeting with key stakeholders. The gathering included Police Lieutenant General Siam Boonsom, Commissioner General of the Bangkok Metropolitan Police, Police Lieutenant General Nophasin Poolsawat from the Commissioner General's Office, and representatives from the Gold Traders Association, among others. The meeting took place at the Metropolitan Police Headquarters, with discussions focusing on strengthening preventive measures against property crimes in gold shops across Bangkok.

Pol. Gen. Thatchai expressed gratitude to the Gold Traders Association and insurance representatives for their participation in the meeting. He highlighted the security status of Bangkok's 1,129 gold shops, categorizing them into high, medium, and low security levels. The Royal Thai Police, alongside the Bangkok Metropolitan Police Command, emphasized the necessity of upgrading security measures due to the rising instances of crime linked to the high value of gold. The collaborative discussions aimed to formulate strategies to minimize property loss and enhance public confidence.

The outcome of the meeting led to a resolution to significantly bolster preventative measures, with particular attention to business operators. The proposed enhancements include physical security improvements, employee training on property protection, and the incorporation of technology to support crime prevention efforts. The Royal Thai Police will utilize insights from the meeting to develop comprehensive security strategies and conduct training sessions for gold shop owners and employees. Additionally, police contingency and interception plans will be reviewed and updated to ensure rapid response capabilities.
