Police and Meta Collaborate to Combat Online Fraudulent Pages

Bangkok: The Royal Thai Police and Meta have announced a strengthened partnership aimed at proactively shutting down fraudulent pages, with a particular focus on combating online gambling and scammers. This collaborative effort signifies a comprehensive approach to tackling online crime and protecting users from illegal activities on Facebook.

According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong Phiwphan, Deputy Inspector General and spokesperson for the Royal Thai Police, revealed that a progress meeting was held to discuss the ongoing cooperation between the Royal Thai Police and Meta Platforms, Inc. The meeting, attended by key officials including Pol. Col. Chak Thanadaksorn and representatives from Meta, focused on strategies to block online gambling pages on the Facebook platform. As a result of this collaboration, Meta has effectively blocked 158,365 pages related to online gambling between October 2025 and April 2026, demonstrating a high compliance rate in the region.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong emphasized that the next phase of this collaboration will enhance the suppression of pages violating various laws on Facebook. The proactive measures will expand beyond online gambling, targeting all forms of scam pages, including investment and online job scams. Advanced tools and databases will be utilized to swiftly identify and block suspicious pages, minimizing the number of potential victims.

In addition to these measures, the Royal Thai Police, alongside Facebook Thailand and Meta Platforms, Inc., has developed the "Digital Citizenship 101" course. This initiative aims to boost technological resilience and cybersecurity awareness among Thai teachers and youth across 437 pilot schools. Scheduled to open by the end of June, the course will educate participants on online threats and the responsible use of social media, extending its reach to both educators and the general public.
