Police Chief Unveils 950 Million Baht Budget for Aircraft Maintenance and Security Measures in Southern Provinces

Bangkok: The national police chief has announced a 950 million baht budget allocation aimed at aircraft maintenance and proactive security measures in the southern border provinces. Pol. Gen. Kittirat Panphet, the national police chief, has taken significant steps to ensure transparency and bolster confidence among pilots.

According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Gen. Kittirat Panphet addressed concerns related to police aviation by emphasizing the importance of creating transparency and building pilot confidence. He stated that it is the responsibility of the commanding officer to ensure transparency and honesty within the Police Aviation Division. Efforts are underway to investigate recent incidents to maintain public trust.

In a bid to build confidence, the police chief visited the Police Aviation Division to provide guidelines for aircraft management, pilot management, and maintenance plans. The aim is to achieve clarity and efficiency in these operations. The chief expects that aircraft inspections, involving the participation of pilots, will take about a week. It is anticipated that necessary missions will resume by Saturday, May 31.

Concerning the substantial maintenance budget, Pol. Gen. Kittirat revealed that the allocated 950 million baht will not be used this year. Instead, a new management plan will be devised to ensure that aircraft maintenance meets the highest standards of quality and cost-effectiveness. A retrospective audit has already been conducted to uphold transparency.

When questioned about security measures in the southern border provinces, where police officers are often targeted, Pol. Gen. Kittirat emphasized the complexity of the security situation. He noted that the unrest affects not only police officers but also volunteers, novices, and villagers of various religions. The geographical challenges, such as forest edges that facilitate insurgent activities, are being addressed through coordinated efforts between the military, police, and administrative sectors. The prime minister is actively involved in these efforts, which focus on reducing vulnerabilities and increasing surveillance.

The national police chief also provided an update on efforts to apprehend the perpetrators of recent incidents. Investigations involving vehicles and individuals are ongoing, with cooperation from the Fourth Army Region commander. Recent press conferences have highlighted progress in proactive operations, and there is a belief that the situation will eventually be manageable.
