Bangkok: The Pollution Control Department (PCD) is actively supporting the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) in inspecting and monitoring air quality following a significant fire at a furniture factory situated in Soi Chalong Krung 55, Lat Krabang District, Bangkok. The incident involved the burning of materials predominantly made of plastic, such as kitchen furniture and sinks, which are suspected of releasing volatile organic compounds (VOCs), carbon monoxide, and other pollutants into the air, posing potential health risks to nearby residents. According to Thai News Agency, the PCD has issued safety recommendations for residents living in proximity to the affected area. These include avoiding the vicinity of the incident and staying in areas with fresh air, preferably upwind. In cases of skin or eye irritation, individuals are advised to rinse the affected area with plenty of clean water and seek medical attention if symptoms persist or worsen. Residents are urged to stay informed about the situat ion and evacuate if instructed by authorities. Reentry into the affected areas should only occur after official confirmation of safety. In collaboration with the BMA, the PCD is conducting air quality assessments in areas potentially impacted by the prevailing wind direction. The focus is on collecting data from downwind communities and surrounding areas, including Lam Pla Thio Canal, Wat Thippawas, Thiw Phai Phatthana Community, Flora Ville Village, Lio Village 2, Pruksa Village 51, Thap Charoen Village, and Wat Bueng Bua Community. The assessments cover a radius of 200 meters, 500 meters, 1,000 meters, and 2,000 meters, aiming to promptly evaluate risk levels and monitor the situation until conditions stabilize.
