The Port Authority’ went to the area to urgently investigate the fire incident of the Flamingo Lady 2 ship while traveling back from Nakha Island, Phuket Province. It was found that the ship’s captain had minor injuries.

At 11:00 a.m. today (October 3), the Phuket Regional Harbor Office received a report of a fire on a passenger ship named Flamingo Lady 2, registration number 625100075, with a capacity of 16.68 gross tons, a type of ship for carrying passengers only. From the initial investigation, it was found that the ship’s captain, Mr. Charoon, aged 31, stated that the ship had left Ao Po Pier at 10:00 a.m. to send 22 tourists to Koh Nakha Yai. After sending off the passengers, during the return trip, the right engine malfunctioned and could not control the speed, causing the engine to overheat and sparks. When the sparks came into contact with the oil vapor on the ship, it started a fire. At that time, there were only 2 ship captains and engine operators. They tried to fix the problem, but they could no
t control the situation, which led to a more serious fire. As a result, Mr. Charoon sustained a minor leg injury and was taken to Thalang Hospital for further treatment.

The Phuket Regional Harbor Office has set up a working group to investigate the cause of the accident and assess the damage. The investigation is still underway. Passenger boat operators have been instructed to carefully look after the safety of passengers and crew. All boats have been warned to have their engine and safety systems inspected periodically to prevent such incidents from happening again in the future.
