Bangkok: A pregnant woman, detained for the assault and subsequent death of her husband's lover, insists she has not broken up with her husband as she prepares to face legal proceedings. The incident has unfolded in the Min Buri area, where police are investigating the tragic event.
According to Thai News Agency, Min Buri police investigators have taken Ms. Worawan, also known as Mayu, a 28-year-old woman who is eight months pregnant, into custody. She is accused of assaulting 23-year-old Ms. Pochanat, resulting in her death. The incident occurred on April 20 when Ms. Worawan discovered her husband, Mr. Bas, with Ms. Pochanat in a resort room. In a fit of rage, she assaulted Ms. Pochanat, who later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. The assault was caught on CCTV.
The police have prepared documents to present Ms. Worawan to the Min Buri Provincial Court for detention. Despite the severity of the charges, investigators have not opposed bail, given the suspect's advanced stage of pregnancy and her willingness to surrender. Police Superintendent Pol. Col. Somphot Thongmoon stated that Ms. Worawan confessed to the charges, explaining her loss of control upon witnessing her husband's infidelity. Throughout her detention, Ms. Worawan has been closely monitored due to her emotional distress.
Ms. Sukanlaya, also known as Kik, a senior friend of Ms. Worawan, has publicly apologized to the victim's family on behalf of her friend. She revealed that despite the circumstances, Ms. Worawan and Mr. Bas had not ended their relationship. She further claimed that Ms. Worawan had attempted to resolve the situation with Mr. Bas and Ms. Pochanat, maintaining that Ms. Worawan is not inherently violent and had never physically harmed Mr. Bas.
The senior friend expressed her intention to seek forgiveness from the deceased's family if bail is granted. She reported that Ms. Worawan is experiencing significant stress and guilt while in custody, unable to eat and repeatedly expressing remorse for her actions.
