President Lai Pledges Peace and Growth on Taiwan Presidency Anniversary

Taipei: President Lai Ching-te delivered a speech on the second anniversary of his presidency, emphasizing Taiwan's commitment to peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. He also addressed Taiwan's role as a global technology and innovation hub, outlining strategies to support economic growth, small businesses, healthcare, and families.

According to Focus Taiwan, President Lai highlighted Taiwan's historical significance as a democratic nation, celebrating 30 years since its first direct presidential election. He reiterated the country's dedication to maintaining a democratic way of life, emphasizing that Taiwan's future should be determined by its people, free from external forces.

Lai addressed the challenges faced by Taiwan, including global shifts in power, economic tests, and internal political deadlocks, and assured citizens that Taiwan is moving forward despite these hurdles. He stressed the importance of defending Taiwan's democracy and maintaining peace across the Taiwan Strait, rejecting any tactics that threaten unification under the guise of peace.

Defense reforms were a key topic in Lai's address, with a focus on strengthening Taiwan's defense capabilities and enhancing societal resilience. He outlined initiatives to increase defense investments, promote self-sufficiency in the defense industry, and foster international cooperation.
