Bangkok: The Prime Minister issued policy directives to the Ministry of Interior, stressing the significance of village headmen and community leaders in public welfare. Ms. Lalida Periswiwatana, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, disclosed that Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul led a policy briefing for village headmen and sub-district chiefs to drive operational work. Attendees included the Deputy Minister of Interior, ministry executives, and members of the Association of Village Headmen and Sub-district Chiefs.
According to Thai News Agency, the Prime Minister highlighted in his policy address the pivotal role of village heads, sub-district heads, and local leaders in public administration. He described them as the first line of defense, closely connected to the people, and a vital support system during difficult times. Serving as a bridge between the government and citizens, they oversee community well-being and act as the government's eyes and ears. The Prime Minister emphasized their duty to act with transparency, fairness, and strict legality, underlining the importance of "combating influential figures, not being influential themselves" to maintain public trust.
The Prime Minister called for unity in addressing issues such as drug trafficking, disaster management, and new forms of crime, including human trafficking and online scams. He stressed the importance of building public awareness to safeguard citizens from these threats. Furthermore, he urged all parties to align efforts towards community economic development, with a focus on reducing expenses, increasing income, and supporting government policies like the "Thai Helps Thai Plus" project to alleviate public hardship.
The Prime Minister appealed to village heads and community leaders to monitor local situations, ensuring continuous coordination with district officers and provincial governors for effective problem-solving. An integrated meeting of all parties is scheduled within two weeks to bolster cooperation between administrative and police sectors.
