Jakarta:The Prime Minister has requested an urgent explanation from the Secretary-General of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) regarding a recent meeting convened by the NBTC committee that allegedly defied the Administrative Court's ruling.
According to Thai News Agency, the Prime Minister's Secretariat, through Ms. Traisuli Traisaranakul, issued a letter dated October 9, 2026, to the Secretary-General of the NBTC. This letter seeks clarification on the NBTC's actions following the Central Administrative Court's ruling on the eligibility of the NBTC Chairman.
The Central Administrative Court's decision on September 25, 2026, involved Mr. Saran Boonbaichaiyapruk, who challenged the Selection Committee's decision that disqualified him from being a member of the NBTC under the Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission Act of 2010. The court upheld the Selection Committee's ruling, dismissing the case as a lawful administrative order.
Despite the court's dismissal, media reports indicated that the NBTC office invited the NBTC board to a meeting on October 1 and 2, 2026, as directed by the NBTC chairman. This action may contradict the court's judgment, as it was stated that a lawsuit to revoke an administrative order does not suspend its enforcement unless the court orders otherwise.
The Prime Minister has now instructed the NBTC Secretary-General to provide reasons for holding the meeting, as required by the relevant sections of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission Act.
