Bangkok: The Prime Minister led a merit-making ceremony, offering alms to 193 monks in honor of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother. The event marked the occasion of Her Majesty's birthday and National Mother's Day on August 12, 2026.
According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul and his wife, Mrs. Thanon Charnvirakul, presided over the Buddhist prayer ceremony and alms-giving event at Sanam Luang at 7:00 AM. The ceremony was attended by key figures including members of the Privy Council, the President of the Parliament, the President of the Supreme Court, the President of the Senate, cabinet ministers, and representatives from both the public and private sectors.
Upon their arrival, the Prime Minister and his wife paid homage to the Triple Gem and the portrait of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit. Ten senior monks were present to administer precepts and lead the chanting of Buddhist prayers. The ceremony continued with offerings to ten monks by the Prime Minister and other dignitaries, followed by a symbolic act of merit-making.
The event concluded with the Prime Minister, his wife, and participants offering alms to 193 monks, celebrating the contributions of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother.
