Samut sakhon: A section of Rama 2 Road collapsed, causing a pickup truck to fall headfirst into the sinkhole. This incident happened approximately 1 kilometer from a recent crane collapse, adding to the concerns about the road's stability.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident occurred around 6:30 AM when authorities were alerted about a vehicle that had fallen into a large pothole on the parallel lane inbound towards Bangkok, in Maha Chai Subdistrict. At the scene, a dark gray pickup truck was discovered with its front right wheel lodged in a hole approximately 1 meter wide, 1.5 meters long, and about 1 meter deep. The other wheel remained above the road surface. Police swiftly coordinated with a tow truck to extract the vehicle and placed traffic cones to manage the situation. Meanwhile, water was observed overflowing from a utility pipe on the road, with a backhoe and large water pipes stationed nearby, exacerbating traffic congestion.
Mr. Sampan, the driver of the pickup truck, shared that he was trailing a six-wheeled truck when the road surface appeared normal, dry, and not flooded. However, as he approached the accident site, the road unexpectedly gave way, causing his truck's wheels to tip and fall into the hole instantaneously.
The road subsidence occurred approximately 1 kilometer from the crane collapse site but on the opposite side of the road. While the crane incident took place on the Bangkok-bound side, the current road subsidence also occurred on the Bangkok-bound side.
