Bangkok: The Revenue Department reported to the Permanent Secretary of the Treasury today on the tax collection guidelines for the Shin Corp. share case, totaling 17.6 billion baht. The Permanent Secretary of Finance revealed that the Revenue Department will report on its tax collection plan for the Shinawatra shares case, totaling 17.6 billion baht, today, indicating that the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) has the authority to investigate assets even if they are abroad.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Lawaron Sangsanit, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, addressed the Supreme Court's overturned verdict in the tax case against Mr. Thaksin Shinawatra, the plaintiff. This case involves the Revenue Department collecting 17.6 billion baht in taxes from the sale of Shin Corporation Public Company Limited shares. He stated that the Revenue Department will report to him today, but that procedures must be followed. The Attorney General will investigate the assets and submit the case to the Department of Legal Execution, followed by the Revenue Department's own. He confirmed that the Revenue Department has a long-standing practice in filing lawsuits in these matters.
When asked whether a specific committee would be established to address such a large budget, as well as a timeframe for implementation, Mr. Laworn said he would have to wait for the Revenue Department to report on the matter and, once there was clarity, would issue an announcement.
If the assets are still abroad, can an investigation be conducted? Mr. Laworn said that the Attorney General can investigate the assets.
As for whether this case can be compared to the seizure of assets in the rice-pledging scheme, Mr. Laworn said that the plaintiff in the rice-pledging scheme was not the Revenue Department, but this time the plaintiff is the Revenue Department, which may be a different context.
Regarding the case where assets are transferred to the name of a child or grandchild, what can be done? Mr. Laworn said it would be best to wait for the Revenue Department to clarify the details to ensure mutual understanding and avoid confusion.
