Bangkok: The armed forces fired a 21-gun royal salute to celebrate the Coronation Day on May 4, 2025. The event was a significant display of respect and honor for His Majesty the King, with various branches of the military participating in the ceremonial tradition.
According to Thai News Agency, the Royal Thai Army conducted the salute at Sanam Luang, led by the 1st Artillery Battalion, 1st Artillery Regiment, King's Bodyguard. The ceremony involved firing simultaneously from all three forces at noon. This involved one artillery company using four 75 mm Model 80 light artillery guns, synchronized with the Royal Anthem, to deliver 21 rounds at five-second intervals, completing the salute in one minute and 40 seconds.
At Fort Wichaiprasit, located in the Old Palace, Royal Thai Navy in Bangkok Yai District, the Royal Thai Navy took part by firing a royal salute using 21 76/40 mm cannons. This was in honor of His Majesty the King during the Chatramongkhon Royal Ceremony.
Meanwhile, at the Royal Thai Air Force Aviation Park, the Royal Thai Air Force participated in the 21-gun royal salute ceremony. This event was conducted by the Royal Thai Air Force's Air Defense Regiment, Air Force Command, in tribute to His Majesty the King for the same royal occasion.
Chatramongkol Day, observed annually on May 4, marks the anniversary of His Majesty the King's coronation, following ancient royal traditions. The current reign established this day to coincide with the original coronation date, following the official ceremony held on May 4, 2019. Thus, the day continues to be commemorated every year on May 4.
