Bangkok: The Royal Thai Navy has officially dismissed claims made by Cambodia that Thailand has opened a border crossing in Chanthaburi and Trat as "fake news." The Navy has stated that these assertions are misleading and intended to provoke public concern.
According to Thai News Agency, Rear Admiral Parach Rattanachaiyapan, spokesperson for the Royal Thai Navy, clarified that the circulating information on social media regarding Thailand opening a route for transporting relief supplies to Cambodia is false. The Navy emphasized that any assistance required by Cambodia, due to the struggles faced by its citizens, should be addressed through established diplomatic channels, rather than through unauthorized routes.
The Royal Thai Navy maintains that it has no intention of opening checkpoints or routes along the border with Cambodia. The Navy continues to enforce strict control over border areas, adhering to legal and national security guidelines.
The Navy spokesperson also highlighted that the spread of this misinformation could be a deliberate effort to sway public opinion, potentially originating from Cambodian sources amid ongoing tensions. The Royal Thai Navy is actively investigating the origins of this false information and intends to pursue legal action against those responsible for disseminating it. The public is advised to carefully verify information from official sources before sharing and to avoid spreading unverified news, particularly when it may be manipulated by opposing forces.
