Kyiv: A Russian airstrike around the Ukrainian capital Kyiv last night claimed the lives of at least 14 people and left 27 others injured, according to Ukrainian emergency services via Telegram. The assault, which also caused significant damage to several warehouses, triggered air raid sirens that blared for over an hour across the capital. The military administration in Kyiv reported that the offensive targeted seven areas and commenced shortly after midnight.
According to Thai News Agency, Kyiv Mayor Vitaly Klitschko confirmed one fatality and 24 injuries in the Kyiv area, which included an ambulance driver. Among the injured, four patients are in critical condition. The attack, involving drones and missiles, ignited fires in warehouses and storage facilities on the outskirts of the city. Additionally, an ammonia leak was detected, prompting urgent control measures by rescue workers.
Mayor Klitschko further mentioned that rescue teams successfully extracted two individuals from the debris of a collapsed warehouse near the city center. However, there are ongoing concerns that more people may be trapped under the rubble, and search and rescue operations are still underway.
The Russian Ministry of Defense acknowledged the attack on Wednesday, stating that the military targeted logistics and distribution centers in Kyiv and its environs, claiming that these facilities were being utilized for military purposes. In response, Ukraine reportedly launched a counterattack on a Russian-owned logistics center belonging to the e-commerce company Wildberries, marking it as one of several Russian shipping targets hit in recent retaliatory strikes.
