Sa Kaeo Soldiers Discover Six More Landmines in Ban Nong Chan

Sa kaeo: Ban Nong Chan has seen the recovery of six additional landmines, as soldiers intensify their inspection efforts. This discovery was made by the Sa Kaeo soldiers in what is deemed a dangerous area. The Army Commander has issued directives for border readiness in anticipation of potential military deployment.

According to Thai News Agency, the 1st Army Area's Burapha Task Force, in collaboration with the 1st Humanitarian Mine Action Unit and the 2nd Engineer Battalion, reported the results of their clearance operations in Ban Nong Chan's Area C. The team cleared 2,103 square meters, contributing to a cumulative cleared area of 12,053 square meters, which accounts for 4.18% of the total hazardous area. The operation uncovered six PMN anti-personnel mines. In total, 15 mines and explosives have been detected and neutralized during the operation.

Meanwhile, a joint survey team from Thailand and Cambodia is accelerating their work to survey the area in preparation for marking the first phase of the temporary border between Boundary Markers 42 and 43 in Ban Nong Ya Kaeo, spanning 7 kilometers. The team surveyed 128 GPS control markers and employed drones to capture images over 6.88 kilometers. This joint effort underscores the commitment of both Thailand and Cambodia to address border issues through a transparent technical survey process based on mutual agreement.

Army spokesman Maj. Gen. Winthai Suvari relayed that Army Commander-in-Chief Gen. Pana Klaewplodthuk has directed the Border Defense Forces of the 1st and 2nd Army Areas to ensure their readiness for immediate action should the situation escalate to military force. He highlighted the necessity of close monitoring of the situation, including information and international affairs, to provide comprehensive understanding and accurate clarification of any misinformation or news developments, both nationally and internationally.
