SAT Plans Strategic Expansion Following Thai Athletes’ SEA Games Success

Bangkok: The Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) is building on the success of Thai athletes towards the Asian Games. The SAT is preparing plans to enhance the achievements from the 33rd Southeast Asian Games, with a focus on the future Asian Games and Olympic Games.

According to Thai News Agency, Police General Prachuab Wongsook, advisor to the Minister of Tourism and Sports, chaired a meeting to review the outcomes of the 33rd SEA Games. Dr. Kongsak Yodmani, Governor of the SAT, reported that Thai athletes secured an impressive 233 gold medals, 154 silver medals, and 112 bronze medals, totaling 499 medals.

Dr. Kongsak noted that the overall organization of the competition was smooth, with only minor technical issues that were promptly resolved by the organizing committee. The performance of Thai athletes was notable, achieving the overall gold medal title for the 14th time and setting records in various sports, showcasing the athletes' potential for development ahead of the Asian Games and Olympic Games.

In preparation for the ASEAN Para Games scheduled to be held in Nakhon Ratchasima Province from January 20-26 next year, Dr. Kongsak confirmed that preparations are over 80% complete. This includes readiness of competition venues, athlete accommodations, and transportation facilities.
