Bangkok: It is expected that within one week, it will be known for sure whether there are people trapped in the rubble of the Office of the Auditor General building or not. Mr. Suriyachai Rawiwan, Director of the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office of Bangkok (BMA), revealed the daily progress of the search mission for those trapped in the Office of the Auditor General (OAG) building under construction in Chatuchak District, which collapsed due to the earthquake on March 28, 2015.
According to Thai News Agency, yesterday (May 2), three more complete bodies were found. One body was identified as female, while the gender of two bodies could not be determined. Another 22 body parts were also found in Zone C4. For the removal of materials from the area yesterday, 204 trips were made. Today's work plan is still based on yesterday's because the operation was successful. In terms of machinery and equipment, there are still enough, and the work is continuous. During the heavy rain, there was some problem with water drainage, but the Drainage Office of Bangkok came to set up water pumps, and it did not take long to drain the water from the area.
Currently, the work on the connecting walkway at the rear of the parking building has not reached the basement floor. There is one basement floor, four meters high, with two more meters to go before reaching the basement floor because the building is pressing down, causing the first floor to be less than one meter high from the basement floor. When the team reaches that floor, it is expected that more victims will be found.
From the 103, there are 11 missing persons. When counting the three bodies found yesterday, there are eight missing persons left. But in reality, the investigators have received four additional reports, of which one additional body has been found. If counting the additional missing persons reported, the total is 104, with three more reported. Therefore, if all 103 are found and the mission is over, there is a risk of leaving missing persons behind. The goal is to help remove all those trapped in the building wreckage, so the work must continue until no one is left behind. It is expected that it will take no more than one week for it to be clear that no one is left behind.
