Senior Citizens Empowered to Embrace AI Technology

Jakarta:A growing initiative is encouraging senior citizens to engage with artificial intelligence (AI) to improve their quality of life and strengthen intergenerational connections. Under the guidance of Teacher Jeab - Suteera Jamlongsuphalak, from the organization OPPY, seniors are learning to navigate the digital world using AI.

According to Thai News Agency, OPPY, established 26 years ago by Khunying Chatchanee Chatikavanich, has evolved its curriculum with technological advancements, incorporating AI education alongside foundational skills in computers and internet use. The aim is to bridge the generational gap through technology, allowing seniors to communicate more effectively with younger family members.

Teacher Jeab's methodology focuses on experiential learning, encouraging seniors to engage with technology through creative projects like making cartoon images, LINE stickers, and video editing. These activities not only facilitate a deeper understanding of AI but also boost self-esteem and confidence among the elderly learners.

Beyond technological skills, there is an emphasis on cultivating critical thinking to guard against potential risks, such as AI-related scams. Teacher Jeab advises seniors to adopt a skeptical approach to information, particularly involving financial matters, and to verify details with trusted sources.

The efforts of OPPY highlight that age is not a barrier to technological proficiency. The program underscores the importance of tailored educational experiences and family support in empowering seniors to thrive in the digital age. With this approach, the digital world can become an inclusive space that offers opportunities and happiness for all generations.
