Washington: International media are closely following the shooting at the White House Correspondents' Association banquet in Washington, D.C., on Saturday night, which forced the U.S. President, the First Lady, and high-ranking officials to take cover and evacuate the scene. Some outlets point to lax security measures, while others suggest it was an attempted assassination of the U.S. President. According to Thai News Agency, several Asian television stations, including China's CCTV, Indonesia's Kompas News, and Vietnam's VVTV, reported that President Donald Trump and the First Lady were escorted and evacuated from the White House Correspondents' Association banquet at a hotel in Washington, D.C., on Saturday night after a gunman entered the hotel and opened fire before being subdued by security personnel and police before reaching the event hall. One officer was shot at close range but survived because he was wearing a bulletproof vest. Media also reported that Trump praised the swift action of security per sonnel and stated that the incident would not hinder his policy work, particularly on the ongoing conflict with Iran. Several Russian state television stations also reported similar events. News reports of a gunman shooting officials inside the White House Correspondents' Association banquet at a hotel in Washington, D.C., on Saturday night described the incident as an attempted assassination of U.S. President Trump, targeting a security failure at the event and using it to criticize the unrest in the United States and the risks Trump faces from his hardline policies. This aligns with Trump's earlier naming of the attacker as an assassin, reflecting the perception that he is a target for his impactful contributions to national change. While German television stations focused on the extremely lax security measures that allowed an attacker with a deadly weapon to get close to national dignitaries, despite metal detectors outside the ballroom, the hotel lobby remained open to guests. This allowed the attacker, who was staying at the hotel, to bypass the final security checkpoint. The shooting occurred approximately 50 yards from where the US leader was seated-very close for someone fully armed. However, the security director insisted that the multi-layered security system was effective, stopping the attacker at the checkpoint and preventing him from entering the ballroom.
