Sihasak’s Strategic Discussions with Thai Legal Advisors in France

Paris: Prime Minister Sihasak Srisuk held discussions with Thai legal advisors in France following Prime Minister Hun Manet's attempt to involve Thailand in a "mandatory compromise mechanism," indicating that Thailand had prepared for this beforehand.

According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkaew, met with Thailand's legal advisors at the Ambassador's residence in Paris during his attendance at the OECD Ministerial Meeting. This meeting followed a letter from Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet to Thailand and the United Nations Secretary-General initiating a conciliation process under the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

The discussion aimed to determine Thailand's proactive stance in resolving the overlapping territorial claims on the continental shelf between Thailand and Cambodia, as well as the approach to action under the mandatory conciliation process stipulated in the UNCLOS. Preparations have been underway for some time. Previously, on May 29, 2026, prior to the trip to Paris, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs chaired a committee to consider solutions to the overlapping continental shelf claims between Thailand and Cambodia, with relevant Thai agencies participating to integrate efforts and develop joint operational guidelines.
