Omaha: A sudden sinkhole opened up at an intersection in Nebraska, USA, partially swallowing two cars. No injuries were reported from the incident.
According to Thai News Agency, the sinkhole appeared on Tuesday afternoon near the University of Nebraska Omaha. Traffic camera footage captured two vehicles, a silver pickup truck and a dark red SUV, stopped at a traffic light when the road surface suddenly gave way. The vehicles fell into the hole, with their front bumpers pointing upwards. Witnesses, including other drivers and passersby, quickly gathered around the sinkhole, seemingly attempting to assist the victims.
Local media reports confirmed that no injuries occurred, and police stated that both drivers managed to exit their vehicles and climb out of the sinkhole before rescue teams arrived. Authorities have since closed the road in both directions, anticipating it will remain shut for several days due to potential expansion of the sinkhole. Recovery of the vehicles was completed by a large crane later that evening. The city's Public Works Department has indicated that the likely cause of the sinkhole was a ruptured main water pipe under the road.
