Sophon Saram, Speaker of the House of Representatives and Chairman of the King Prajadhipok Institute Council, addressed the King Prajadhipok Institute at the 3rd Council meeting of 2026. His policy emphasized collaboration to overcome national crises and restore public trust in the legislature. Present at the meeting were Dr. Issara Seriwattanawut, Secretary-General of the King Prajadhipok Institute, and members of the Council.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Sophon highlighted the country's current crises, including a global crisis and a crisis of public trust in the legislature. He stressed the necessity of unity between organizations to guide the country through obstacles within their legal authority. Mr. Sophon reiterated his vision for a dignified legislative institution, achievable through both physical changes and shifts in operational methods.
In his address, Mr. Sophon emphasized the need for swift physical transformations to instill public trust. He called for collaborative efforts to advance beneficial legislative initiatives promptly. Abstract changes, he noted, involve mindset shifts and working methods, which are less visible but equally important. He expressed hope for close cooperation between the legislature and the King Prajadhipok Institute, which provides academic research for legislative use.
Mr. Sophon also advocated for a reduction in formalities, which he believes can lead to unnecessary complications. Since becoming Speaker, he has sought to address this aspect. He concluded by stressing that to earn public trust, the House of Representatives must demonstrate their commitment to democracy's benefits, ensuring prosperity and societal thriving.
