Bangkok: Sopon Saram has initiated a call for a general debate on Section 152 ahead of the upcoming election, asserting that as a party member, he is committed to defending Anutin Charnvirakul, who opposes the no-confidence motion under Section 151. Sopon emphasized that he is unafraid of scrutiny and welcomes clarification.
According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister Sopon Saram, a key figure in the Bhumjaithai Party, has voiced his unease regarding remarks made after Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul warned that a no-confidence motion could result in the dissolution of Parliament. Sopon argued that such commentary fosters a negative precedent, painting the party as avoiding accountability. He contended that these criticisms are unjust and reiterated his willingness to undergo scrutiny. To promote fairness, Sopon proposed a general debate without a vote, as outlined in Article 152 of the Constitution, to be scheduled for either December or January. This pre-election discussion would provide the opposition with an opportunity to engage the government and allow the public to evaluate the administration's accomplishments. He believes this process would be equitable.
"In politics, if we speak based on facts, with individuals claiming that clarification equals support, where is the truth and decorum? Raising your hand is not about clarification; it's a procedural matter. Should Mr. Anutin's government lose the parliamentary vote, it would tarnish us and our party, as our votes are insufficient. I want to affirm that the Bhumjaithai Party does not fear scrutiny, but the House of Representatives must be dissolved due to its minority status," Sopon stated.
When questioned about the Prime Minister's declaration of not dissolving Parliament to avoid scrutiny, Sopon expressed that, in his view, it is essential to safeguard the party leader and voice his opinion.
