Sotheby’s to Auction Maurizio Cattelan’s 101-Kilogram Golden Toilet

According to Thai News Agency, the gold toilet bowl, made of 18-karat solid gold and weighing approximately 101 kilograms, is a sculpture by renowned Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan. The piece is titled “America,” and Sotheby’s is set to auction it off on November 18.

The starting price of the gold toilet is expected to be around 10 million US dollars, which is approximately 324 million Thai baht. This golden toilet is famous for being an artwork that satirizes economic inequality and extravagance. Although it is a work of art, the 18-karat gold toilet is also functional. It was displayed in the Guggenheim Museum in New York City from 2016 to 2017, installed in the museum’s unisex restroom.
