Speaker Wan Muhammad Noor Matha Calls for Unity to Pass Constitutional Amendment Before Potential Parliament Dissolution

Bangkok: Mr. Wan Muhammad Noor Matha, Speaker of the House of Representatives and President of the National Assembly, has urged all parties to ease tensions and work collaboratively to ensure the passage of a draft constitutional amendment before the possible dissolution of Parliament.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Wan Muhammad Noor Matha addressed the concerns of various parties regarding the draft constitutional amendment, which is crucial for paving the way to draft a new constitution. There is apprehension that the amendment might not be passed before Parliament gets the opportunity to review it, as there is speculation that the government might dissolve Parliament earlier due to emerging political challenges.

The Speaker emphasized that he could not comment on the potential longevity of the current government. However, he highlighted the importance of understanding and reducing obstacles among MPs and Senators regarding the constitutional amendments. The draft, currently in its second reading by the committee, does not outline the country's rules in detail. Instead, it proposes mechanisms to establish a Constitution Drafting Assembly. This assembly, envisioned as a neutral body closely connected to the populace, is tasked with drafting a constitution that truly represents the people's interests.
