Bangkok: Social train services will not be discontinued on any route starting June 1st. The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) reiterated that train services are operating as normal and that it is reviewing ways to improve train operations while considering the impact on the public. It also confirmed that there will be no cancellations or reductions of any social service train services as of June 1, 2026.
According to Thai News Agency, the SRT's assurance comes after an internal document from the organization was circulated on social media, causing widespread panic and anxiety. The document outlined plans to suspend 30 social service train services and reduce the routes of 16 train services starting June 1, 2026. This sparked significant concern among the public, students, and those who rely on rail transportation.
In response, the State Railway of Thailand sincerely apologized for the confusion and confirmed that there will be no changes to social service train schedules as of June 1, 2026. Passengers can continue to travel according to their normal schedules on all routes.
The SRT has announced a plan to analyze data, particularly focusing on trains with an average passenger usage below the median. This analysis aims to understand changes in public travel behavior and explore ways to improve routes or reallocate locomotives and carriages to routes with higher demand. However, this initiative is currently in the initial stage of data collection for "further study."
The State Railway of Thailand emphasizes that social service trains are vital to public transportation. Any potential future changes will be considered with the utmost care and attention to public needs.
