State Railway of Thailand Launches ‘Mission Zero’ to Enhance Rail Safety Nationwide

Bangkok: The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) is advancing its efforts to minimize accidents at railway crossings across the nation. The SRT invites the public to engage with rail safety at the SRT x JRM 2026 event, as part of its 'Mission Zero' initiative aimed at reducing railway crossing accidents nationwide.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Anan Pothinimdaeng, Deputy Governor and Acting Governor of the SRT, inaugurated the rail safety campaign at the 'SRT x JRM 2026: Raillation - The Relationship Between Rails' event held at Bangkok Central Station. The event, which took place from June 6-7, 2026, was designed to educate and raise safety awareness among all age groups about using the railway system safely.

Participants were introduced to the world of trains through interactive activities and exhibitions, including model train displays with signaling systems, role-playing as a station master using the E-Token system, and virtual driving of a KIHA train. The event also featured an Interlocking Simulator to demonstrate the train control system. These activities aimed to enhance understanding of train operations and rail safety.

Mr. Anan emphasized that the SRT prioritizes safety campaigns for shared railway and road user safety. The main goal is to educate the public on the correct and safe use of railway crossings. He highlighted the importance of respecting traffic regulations at level crossings and urged road users to stop at least five meters from railway tracks, as trains require longer stopping distances.

He also expressed gratitude for the collaboration with Japan Rail Modelers (JRM) in organizing the event. This collaboration provided an opportunity to educate the public, especially youth, about train operations, rail systems, and safety measures, fostering a better understanding and safe usage of the rail system.

This initiative is part of the SRT's "MISSION ZERO: Safe Trains, Safe Routes" campaign, which focuses on reducing accidents at level crossings nationwide. It underscores the importance of collaboration between the SRT, communities, educational institutions, and local authorities to promote traffic law knowledge and safety awareness among road users.

The SRT believes that cooperation from all sectors is essential to reducing accidents at railway crossings and cultivating a culture of safety in rail system usage, with the ultimate goal of achieving a sustainable reduction of accidents to zero.
