State Railway of Thailand Reports Smooth Operations During Songkran 2026

Bangkok: The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has reported a successful management of the overall travel situation during the Songkran festival in 2026, accommodating a total of 628,514 passengers over the seven-day period from April 10-16, 2026. The southern route witnessed the highest number of travelers, exceeding 200,000.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Methaphat Sunthornwaraphas, Director of Public Relations Center, SRT, stated that the railway services operated smoothly without any passenger delays. This success was attributed to strict measures implemented to ensure public safety, in line with the Ministry of Transport's policy. The SRT enhanced its service capacity by adding additional passenger carriages and introduced 22 special train services to meet the increased travel demand.

The SRT recorded 623,775 passengers using regular train services and 4,739 passengers on the additional trains. The Southern Line had the highest passenger count with 222,672 travelers, followed by the Northeastern Line with 164,587, the Northern Line with 116,216, the Eastern Line with 68,760, the Mahachai Line with 46,982, and the Maeklong Line with 9,297 passengers. All routes operated smoothly, ensuring that no passengers were stranded.

The SRT is prepared to manage the return of passengers to Bangkok post-festival, as well as those extending their holidays. Systematic train management and staff deployment are in place to ensure a convenient and safe travel experience. The SRT expressed gratitude to passengers for their cooperation with safety measures and aims to continue enhancing the quality of its services for improved customer satisfaction across all routes.
