Bangkok:Sudarat Keyuraphan, the leader of the Thai Sang Thai Party, has called for urgent action in the investigation of the local government exam cheating case. She expressed concerns over reports that suspects might flee, potentially hindering the uncovering of those masterminding the scandal.
According to Thai News Agency, Sudarat revealed that she has received information suggesting that one of the three accused individuals is planning to escape. While she could not verify these claims, she urged authorities to take swift action to ensure that the investigation reaches all involved parties, not just lower-level officials.
Sudarat emphasized that if the reports are accurate, they could indicate attempts to block the investigation from reaching high-level perpetrators. She highlighted the scale of the alleged corruption, involving billions of baht, and questioned why the true masterminds have not yet been identified. The investigation should extend beyond the immediate suspects to determine if influential figures were involved.
Further concerns were raised about the potential for officials to be accused of negligence if they fail to act decisively or allow suspects to evade justice. Should this occur, there could be grounds for reviewing their liability under Section 157 of the Criminal Code. Sudarat stressed the importance of a comprehensive investigation to ensure justice is served, indicating that any obstruction by officials could lead to legal repercussions.
The public, she noted, demands transparency and accountability regarding who orchestrated the large-scale corruption and why they have not yet been brought to justice.
