Teng Nattapong Retains Leadership of the People’s Party; Picharn Named New Secretary-General

Bangkok: The People's Party held its annual general assembly where it was decided that Teng Nattapong would continue in his role as the party leader. The assembly also saw a change in the position of secretary-general, with Picharn Chaowapatanawong stepping in to replace Sarayut Jailak, who resigned following the party's defeat in the 2026 elections.

According to Thai News Agency, the decision to retain Nattapong Ruangpanyawut as the party leader reflects the confidence the party members have in his leadership. The assembly proposed him to continue steering the party, emphasizing stability and continuity at a time when the party seeks to regain its footing after the electoral setbacks.

Picharn Chaowapatanawong's nomination as the new secretary-general marks a significant shift in the party's strategy, as he takes over from Sarayut Jailak. Picharn's appointment is seen as a move to rejuvenate the party's leadership and inject new energy into its organizational structure. Alongside these leadership changes, Ms. Suthawan Suban Na Ayutthaya was nominated as a member of the party's executive committee, further diversifying the leadership team.

The People's Party's executive committee now includes a blend of experienced and new members. The key figures in the committee following the 2026 Annual General Meeting are Mr. Nattapong Ruangpanyawut as Party Leader, Mr. Picharn Chaowapatanawong as Secretary-General, Ms. Chutima Kachapan as Party Treasurer, Mr. Nattawut Buaprathum as Party Membership Registrar, and Ms. Suthawan Suban Na Ayutthaya as an Executive Committee Member. Additionally, Ms. Phakamon Nunanan continues her role as the party spokesperson, serving as the primary liaison between the party and the public.
