Bangkok: The 3rd special meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) Secretariat between Thailand and Cambodia has officially commenced, focusing on the ongoing tensions along their shared border. The meeting is being held on the 3rd floor of the Immigration Bureau building, with participation from key military officials from both nations.
According to Thai News Agency, the Cambodian delegation is led by Major General Nham Boraden, who serves as the Deputy Head of the Cambodian Ministry of Defence. Representing Thailand is General Natthapong Phaokaew, Deputy Secretary-General of the Royal Thai Armed Forces, who is attending in his capacity as the Secretary of the Thai-Cambodian General Border Committee. The meeting is of significant importance as it aims to address the confrontations and seek resolutions to the border issues that have been a point of contention between the two countries.
The meeting is also being observed by Brigadier General Samsul Bin Musa, Malaysian Military Attach© to Thailand, along with representatives from ASEAN, including participants from Airports of Thailand (AOT) Malaysia. The observers are present to witness the discussions and to contribute proposals aimed at resolving the Thai-Cambodian border dispute.
Thailand has emphasized its commitment to maintaining a continuous and sincere ceasefire, coupled with dedicated efforts towards demining the affected border areas. The media was allowed brief access to film the initial proceedings, but the formal bilateral discussions were held behind closed doors, signifying the sensitive nature of the negotiations.
