Bangkok: Thailand's Election Commission (EC) is currently examining 113 allegations of electoral fraud following the recent election held on Sunday. Officials reported on Monday that the primary offense being scrutinized is vote-buying.
According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Capt. Chanin Noylek, the EC's Deputy Secretary-General, emphasized the body's determination to rigorously pursue any breaches of the law, with a focus on cash-for-votes incidents as outlined under Section 73(1) of the organic election law. He stated, "We are following every lead. Some cases have already resulted in charges, while others remain under active investigation," and dismissed criticisms that the EC had been slow to respond to viral clips depicting alleged electoral fraud.
Out of the 113 complaints submitted thus far, 107 have been formalized into official case files. The EC is also working expeditiously to complete and authenticate results from polling stations nationwide. This effort is part of ensuring transparency and accountability before the 30-day period allotted for post-election challenges concludes.
