Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge 5 to Open on December 25th, Connecting Bueng Kan and Borikhamxay

Bueng kan: The 5th Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge, connecting Bueng Kan in Thailand and Borikhamxay in Laos, is set to open on December 25, 2025. Mr. Chaiyatham Phromsorn, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, recently inspected the bridge to ensure its readiness for the grand opening. The inspection was attended by the Director-General of the Department of Highways, the Permanent Secretary of Bueng Kan Province, and other relevant agencies.

According to Thai News Agency, the bridge, which spans the Mekong River, has been completed on both sides and represents a significant investment of over 3.93 billion baht. The financial outlay is divided between the Thai side, which invested 2.63 billion baht, and the Lao side, which contributed 1.3 billion baht. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport highlighted the preparations for the opening, which include arrangements for lighting and public service points.

The new bridge is expected to significantly boost trade, investment, tourism, and logistics between Thailand and the Lao People's Democratic Republic. It aims to enhance transportation and logistical capabilities, fostering stronger ties between the two neighboring countries.
