Thai National Team Advances to 2026 ASEAN Cup Final Despite Defeat to Singapore

Bangkok: The Thai national team, despite a 1-2 defeat to Singapore in the second leg of the 2026 ASEAN Cup semi-final at Rajamangala National Stadium, secured a 4-3 aggregate victory. This victory allows Thailand to advance to the final, where they will face the winner of the match between defending champions Vietnam and Malaysia.

According to Thai News Agency, Anthony Hudson, head coach of the Thai national team, expressed his thoughts during a post-match press conference. While he praised Singapore for their unexpected level of preparation, Hudson also highlighted his pride in the Thai team's performance, particularly the young players who, alongside seasoned teammates, successfully led the team to the final. Although happy with the outcome, Hudson admitted disappointment with the scoreline, noting that Thailand had several opportunities to equalize or secure a win during the second half.

Hudson's comments also acknowledged Singapore's impressive performance throughout the tournament, including their matches against Indonesia and Vietnam in previous rounds. He emphasized that Singapore's preparation and execution were evident in their strong showing against Thailand, attributing their success to doing their homework better than anticipated.
